We've had a dormant winter and spring for brewing, due to equal parts weekend backyard renovating and pregnancy. Summer's on its way, though, so it's time to fill up the kegs with some lighter brews.

Kerry has slowly been making his way through the three winter batches we currently have on tap: a brown ale, a milk stout, and a Jubelale*. I prefer wheatier beers, so Kerry has used my pregnancy as an excuse to brew all the darker, creamier brews that he enjoys in chilly weather.

Today he's switching gears and brewing up a hearty Hefeweizen, one of my favorites. Served with a slice of lemon, this is a perfect summer drink. Now we just have to wait for the weather to warm up enough for a backyard keg party.

*Jubelale

This recipe came from a local beer store, but Kerry wan't too happy with the results. The strong taste was too alcoholic to enjoy.

We had a great second homebrew keg party last weekend. We killed two kegs--so long pumpkin and wit! Kerry's new Scottish* was a huge hit. We think it's his best all-grain brew yet. Hopefully he's worked out the kinks in his system, and we can look forward to some great new all-grain brews in the new year!

Scottish Heavy 70/-

This is called a 70 shilling ale, which is an old-fashioned way of ordering Scottish ale in Scotland, where the casks were priced in shillings and pence (the - in the name refers to zero pence, since prices were formulated as shillings/pence.)

This recipe has a British pale ale malt base, with steeping grains of honey malt and pale chocolate, which gives the finished beer a dark coloring. A perfect drink for dark winter days!

Welcome to Saucy Mary Brewing Co., a home-brewing operation in Seattle, WA.

This blog will document Kerry's adventures in home-brewing. He'll share his recipes, record his equipment-tinkering, and reveal which beers are currently on tap or brewing in the fermentor in our Ballard basement brewery.
